I Quit

Sooner
or later, you will quit your job.

If you are a person like me, who gets bored by doing similar things, changes the interest frequently, doesn’t have the correct skill set your job requires, or does not get paid enough for what you are doing, you will quit.

Here’s a simple job quitting formula I found

1. old job + old skill = old money

explanation: If you are doing the same work daily and you have the same skill for this job, you will end up making the same money for years, or maybe a minor salary hike. And you will quit to get more money in a new job.

2. new job + old  skill = new money + frustration

explanation: - if you somehow changed your job and got a new salary, but this job needs a new skill set which you don't have or are unable to learn quickly. You end up getting frustrated and will quit the job, or get fired.

3. old job + new  skill = old money + boredom

explanation: - Now you have upgraded your skillset, but you still have the same old work to do on daily basis where you cannot utilise your new skills. You get bored soon and will get the same money so you will quit.

4. new job + new  skill = new money + excitement

explanation: - this is the only formula that can keep you in the job for a long time. if you are upgrading your skill regularly and getting new challenges in the job, you will not get bored and will get good pay with a good hike every year.  but this is a continuous process by learning new skills regularly if you want to earn more and more money year after year.

and don't worry, you will never run out of new skills to learn because every day new things are discovered and new technologies are built. Companies are ready to pay more money to the person who can learn new things and help them deploy.

but as I said "learning and earning is a never-ending process" and it's never enough too. you should keep your energy high if you want to earn well for a long time.

Now, allow me to share my personal experience as a quitter.

I hate my current job. This was not the case before. When I joined my current company or any previous companies, I was hired for a particular skill set in which I was fully trained by my courses/Training/Study I did, and I was ready to take any new challenge by learning more about it.

I was excited, because every day I was solving the problems with help of my old and new knowledge, and appreciation and money were following. But over time I got too busy solving day to day problems that I could not upgrade my knowledge by the speed new technology arrived in the market. and due to lack of knowledge, either I am not able to solve the new problems or just not doing anything more valuable for the team or my company. and this frustrates me more that I am not doing for which I am being paid. Money is still following but not the appreciation.

There was a time, when one day if I will not do something productive in my 8 hrs job, I felt unsatisfied, thinking I did not do what the company is paying me for, and now I am passing weeks after weeks months after month with this un satisfactions. And yes, now I don’t have that much patience or interest to learn something which will change more rapidly than it changed previously.

Finally, I decided to QUIT.
